Interactive Notebooks
One of the systems and structures in place in my classroom are the use of Warm-ups and Exit Tickets. This provides young earners with buy-in (they receive POP points for completing them weekly), but also structures my lesson with a clear jumping-off point and formative assessment to end. While I have done these live in my classroom for some time, more advanced learners can make use of digital interactive notebooks. Response now can vary from simple written to responses to a greater variety: polls, images, links, discussion boards, etc. I can also respond and assess them in real time, so feedback becomes easier and quicker. These can be used asynchronously or live.
In the beginning, I offered a set choice of 4 slide deck designs, but after a while I allowed students to choose their own from free sites. This student stuck with the original. Her responses wane toward the end of the semester (as it often does around Christmas break), but the methodology remains.
